A partnership between the Rotary Club Vila Antonieta of São Paulo, the Rotary Club Shu Lin Fang-Yuang of Taiwan and CITIES WITHOUT HUNGER has enabled the creation of a garden at the Nossa Senhora da Penha Centre (CENHA).
The primary construction phase took three weeks and was concluded by planting the first seedlings on 21.10.2015. Members of the Rotary Club Vila Antonieta planted together with the children and had great pleasure in inaugurating the garden. The institution’s staff as well as the children’s parents already participated actively in this project.
21 beds were created on the soil, in planters and in boxes on the walls, using the available space as efficiently as possible. A great variety of vegetables such as chard, lettuce, cabbage, parsley and strawberries were planted by the children.
Besides the garden, the institution offers Equine Therapy (a therapeutic method based on positive effects of the relation between horses and humans), sports, musical and cultural activities. The CENHA takes care of 450 children with special needs from low income families in the East Zone of São Paulo.
