The Project

Since 2004

The non-governmental-organization (NGO) Cities Without Hunger has been active since 2004 with the Community Gardens Project, seeking to attenuate the situation of socially-endangered groups living in areas of great demographic concentration.

Who is behind the organization?

Hans Dieter Temp started the NGO “Cidades sem Fome” in April 2004, and is the coordinator of the organisation since then.

He finished his studies in business administration at the University Cândido Mendesin Rio de Janeiro / Brazil in 1988, and made a training as technician for agriculture and environmental policies at the University of Tübingen / Germany from 1993-96.

From 2001 to 2004, Hans Dieter Temp was the coordinator of the program for municipal agriculture in Sao Paulo and the financier of the secretariat for the International Relations Office of the mayor of the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Today, he devotes himself exclusively to the management of “Cidades sem Fome” and coordinates the various projects. Since 1999, Hans lives in the eastern city of Sao Paulo with his wife and his two sons.

Dignity and citizenship for São Paulo’s East Side

For that, our NGO grows vegetable and fruit gardens on unused areas, particularly in São Paulo’s East Side, and with the participation of communities in a socially vulnerable situation, we grow food of a high nutritional value.

Everyone benefits

This sustainable development initiative not only improves these communities’ diet with healthy and nutritional foods, but also provides them with capacity-building programs and job and income generation, through the selling of the produce harvested.

Other projects

Other of our NGO’s programmes target child malnutrition, breastfeeding and environmental education.

Resources

To fulfill its mission, Organization Cities Without Hunger raises funds at home and abroad, from individuals, private and state-owned companies, and government institutions. Organization Cities Without Hunger has no political, partisan or religious ties.
