Thanks for you E-mail.

My name is Hans Dieter Temp, I'm the founder of Cities Without Hunger.

The ‘Cities without Hunger/Community Gardens Project’ is seeking to introduce a sustainable alternative in connection with the production of food in disadvantaged communities with high demographic concentrations in order to attenuate the situation of those groups at risk, thus contributing to improve social, environmental and economic relevant issues. The project’s objective is to implement, through a participatory process, a farming nucleus that is to generate urban job opportunities, skills building for participants and their dependents, systematic income generation from selling the produce and value added processed goods and, foremost, the social integration of the communities with their environment.

Today we have 21 community gardens in Sao Paulo and we are beginning the work of creating gardens in public schools as well as the creation of alternative business on properties of small family farmers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul - south of Brazil. (attached).

We have great interest in promoting our work and create new partnerships.

Between 15 and 20 October I will participate in the FIESS - International Forum on the Social ans Solidarity Economy in Montreal, http://www.fiess2011.org/en/ and in case you are present at the event, we can have an oportunity to meet us. If not, I'll invite you to visit us in Brazil to show you what we are developing.

Best Regards,

Hans Dieter Temp

Hi,
I am very interested in your work re: urban agriculture and food security. I am the manager of the Toronto Food Strategy which is working in collaboration with a number of City departments, civil society and the private sector to work towards a healthy, sustainable food system for Toronto. Food security is an issue for many people in Toronto; probably not on the scale that you have but we do have people living in poverty and not having enough food to eat. Please take a look at our foodconnections report. I think we have a lot in common and the potential to collaborate. We have just started a collaboration with the City of Cape Town, S. AFrica through Rooftops Canada and I'm very interested in expanding this to learn more about Brazil/your organizations work
